It doesn’t take long for Gordon to pack more guns than the Doom Marine. And on that note, this isn’t on the developer of Black Mesa, but Valve, the tone is all over the place.Sometimes I’d run into a room back to the brim with replenishments thinking: “O there will be a boss fight coming up!” and then I’d just fight 3 zombies and enter another room packed to the rafters with guns and ammo. I played it on hard, and I still had more health and ammo packs than I knew what to do with. This became especially frustrating in boss fights. And given the jump mechanics in this game suck, I usually had no way to get unstuck again, or too late. Also, I got stuck on literally everything. The engine was simply not made for so many objects, and often boxes went flying through the room for no reason. The main thing being the physics fucking up all the time. That being said, making a 15-year-old engine do things like this is like strapping a jet engine to a Ford Fiesta: sure, you can reach amazing top speeds, but the handling will be a tad compromised. It took the guy 15 years to finish it, but it shows. Instead, here are some things I noticed as a Half Life virgin who jumped in with no prior knowledge of the series: I could give a review of the whole thing, but you already know it is good, so I won’t. But now I've played it, and I have to say, it is amazing. But I always felt like I should have, so when Black Mesa came out, I immediately bought it… and forgot about it until 2 weeks ago. Not out of lack of interest, but there were simply so many FPS coming out at the turn of the millennium that I couldn’t keep up. I never played the original Half Life when it came out.
